いはい【位牌】

a (Buddhist) memorial tablet; a tablet on which the posthumous Buddhist name of the deceased is inscribed, and which is kept in the Buddhist altar in the home.

●先祖の位牌 an ancestral [a family] memorial tablet.

●先祖の位牌に対して相済まない. I am unworthy of my ancestors.

●先祖の位牌を祭る pay one's respects to one's ancestors [ancestors' memorial tablets]
